Background

Born and raised in New Jersey, Maureen studied painting with celebrated artists in the New Jersey and New York area where her first exhibits were in the academic and art league settings. Maureen has made her home in Maryland since 1977.   After completing her graduate studies she opened a studio in Savage Mill, MD to resume her painting seriously.   In 1998 she moved to Maryland's Eastern Shore to paint, design and teach, opening L'Atelier Gallery and Studios in Stevensville, MD in 1999. THE NAME CHANGED TO BANNON STUDIO IN 2004.
Maureen's impressionistic oil paintings are contemporary, with an emphasis on light, loose brushwork. As a naturalist, themes include neighboring gardens, vacation retreats, historical homes, and wetlands and wildlife, as well as macroscipic views of the land. She reveals on canvas the importance of one's immediate environment through color impressions, evoking a timeless atmosphere of serenity...leaving the story to the viewer. Following the example of the 19th century luminist painters, where light is the pronounced feature, she creates her personal impressions of the visual world.
